About Max
“The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you.””
–B.B. King
Max Gruber brings a rare combination of deep scientific expertise and a gift for teaching. He earned both his B.S. in Neurobiology (cum laude, with distinction) and his M.S. in Biology from UC San Diego, maintaining a perfect 4.0 in graduate school. While at UCSD, Max served as a Teaching Assistant for ten consecutive quarters, guiding students through complex coursework and labs, and later became a Staff Research Associate studying neurobiology in the Halpain Lab.
At Hammer Prep, Max tutors math and science through the AP level. His experience spans from coaching K–12 students in reading and writing to mentoring undergraduates in advanced biology and neuroscience research. Parents value Max’s ability to connect with students at any level—helping them not only master content but also build the study habits and confidence needed for long-term success.
When he isn’t tutoring, Max continues his work in biological research and enjoys music, having completed a minor in the field during his undergraduate studies.
